L’Oréal Releases New Line Of Makeup Specifically For Men To Wear When Wives Not Home

Via The Onion:
NEW YORK—In an effort to cater to a long-neglected demographic, global cosmetics brand L’Oréal released Sheer Discretion this week, a new line of makeup specially designed for men to wear when their wives are not home. “Sheer Discretion enables men everywhere to finally give themselves the full eyelashes and pouty lips they deserve while their wives are away at work,” L’Oréal representatives said of the cosmetic products, which come in discreet packaging and can be quickly wiped clean with just a splash of water if one’s wife suddenly walks through the front door. “Featuring a smooth foundation that conceals, hides imperfections, and blends evenly over the thickest stubble, our Sheer Discretion line of products are casual enough for just hanging out in the living room in your wife’s blouse or providing that exact dash of chic you need to pull off her ruby chiffon gown.” L’Oréal executives confirmed that the product release would be accompanied by an advertising campaign urging women to enjoy an evening out with their friends and leave their husbands at home for the night.

5 Beautiful Women In History Who Never Actually Existed.

- Throughout the ages from the Trojan War to Jersey Shore men have dueled and died to win the affections of beautiful women.

Rather predictably, the more beautiful the damsel, the fiercer the fellas have fought to lay claim to (or just lay) her.

Many of these lovely ladies have, however, suffered from the teeny shortcoming that they never actually existed in the first place.

5. Helen of Troy.

She had a “face that launch’d a thousand ships,” according to Christopher Marlowe’s Dr. Faustus, and her abduction brought about the Trojan War. That’s assuming the Trojan War actually happened, for starters, which is a matter of some scholarly contention. Even if it did happen in one form or another (and involved preposterously oversized horse with soldiers hiding inside), Helen of Troy almost certainly remains a purely mythical hottie.

She was a sultry character in Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, and is believed to have played a starring role in Greek legends dating back centuries before Homer, meaning she probably never lived. Quoth Homer: “D’oh.”

4. Rosie The Riveter. (Feminist Icon)

The enduring symbol of female wartime industriousness and the inspiration behind innumerable present-day roller derby team logos has a tomboyish quality that is oddly irresistible. Rosie represented all the American women who worked in factories to make weapons and supplies for the men who were overseas trying to blow up the Führer.

Made famous by a 1942 song by the same name, Rosie the Riveter was said to be “part of the assembly line… making history.” And, according to posters bearing her supposed likeness, Rosie had high cheekbones and a toned biceps that surely gave chills to the more submissive men of her era. Sadly for them, she was merely a sexy, fictitious stand-in for factory-working women who were probably more grimy than gorgeous

3. Tokyo Rose.

Her sultry voice floated across the airwaves of the South Pacific during the Second World War, her messages of propaganda cloaked in a come-hither tone. Lonely servicemen might have been wooed by her broadcasts if she hadn’t been so heavy-handed with suggestions of surrender.

In reality, Tokyo Rose was probably the common monicker given to a half-dozen or so English-speaking female DJs in Japan.Debate has simmered for decades over who was, and who wasn’t, the “real” Tokyo Rose, but it’s probably a moot point, since most servicemen are said to have seen right through her transparent guise. It’s safe to assume, though, they also imagined seeing right through her transparent blouse.

2. Guinevere.

The Queen of Arthurian legend, the frisky monarch rumored to have had an extramarital fling with Sir Lancelot, was about as real as Merlin’s spells. The historical veracity of Arthurian lore — the realm of Camelot, the Knights of the Round Table and, to a lesser extent, the Knights Who Say Ni — has been debated for ages.

It’s safe to assume that the jaw-dropping Guinevere, whose name translates to “White Enchantress,” is a figment of fiction. Interestingly, the name “Guinevere” is believed to be the predecessor of the modern English name “Jennifer,” which might explain why so many men consider Ms. Aniston to be such a white enchantress.

1. The Triple-Boobed Woman from Total Recall.

Technically, this generously bosomed female is not a historical figure, since Total Recall is set in a dystopian 2085, largely on the planet Mars. Although nobody actually believes she was real, we just felt like mentioning her anyway. Along with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s disturbing, buggy-eyed death rattle at the film’s apex, the appearance of the three-breasted Martian hooker is one of the few unforgettable moments in the 1992 action flick.

Her scene in Total Recall was so iconic that the creators of the rather unnecessary 2012 remake were sure to include a triple-boobed starlet (played by the fetching Kaitlyn Leeb, who has merely two boobs in real life). For our money, the original triple-boobed Martian hooker, played by Lycia Naff, will always retain a special place in Hollywood history. Fact: the script originally called for four breasts, but it was decided that the prosthetic looked too “bovine.”

5 Makeup Myths Busted.

Are you a person who believes these?

1. You have to use a primer.

Yes, people have winning face primers and eye shadow primers. No, you don't have to use them. Eye shadow primer can help make shadows easier to blend. But if you don't find that they deliver seamless results or minimize imperfections, skip them.

2. A foundation brush is a must.

Not so. Your fingers work just as well. While professionals often use a brush with clients, who may not be keen on having their faces touched, fingers have their advantages. They warm the makeup so it melts into skin. Also, you can feel when the makeup starts to drag instead of glide, a signal to add a smidgen more.

3. Base should go all over.

You may need coverage everywhere, but that doesn't mean you should put on an even coating of foundation that'll make your face look mask like. You have the most redness and discoloration around your nostrils, the tip of your nose, and the bottom of your chin, so start in the center of your face and work out. You need the least coverage near your hairline.

4. Don't use powder.

Here's the official green light for using a powder; like a mineral makeup if that's what you prefer. Simply stick to the even planes of your face (like your cheeks and chin) and avoid areas with fine lines (like your forehead or near your eyes). One caveat: If you have large pores, skip powder, as it can settle into and draw attention to them.

5. Concealer should be pale.

There's no need to fuss about your undereye concealer shade. Many have a peachy cast to correct bluish and gray circles. Some have a pinkish hue to brighten. Just make sure yours looks natural when blended into your skin.

Eye Makeup For Every Eye Color.

Sometimes you need a little help drawing attention to your best feature - the eyes. Using eye shadow & mascara can make eyes pop and stand out. It can allow you to fake long lashes, make eyes look bigger, & experiment with color and texture for a fun or sexy look.

As with any cosmetic, there are rules of the trade. Let's take a look at which eye makeup colors fare best with which eye hue and how to use products available to achieve the eye-popping looks you desire.

Brown Eyes:

If you're blessed with dark, sultry, brown eyes, you're lucky for more than one reason. Brown eyes pair well with virtually any hue of eye shadow.

To make brown eyes pop to their full ability, shoot for green or pink eye shadow  Blue can also be a good color, and if you have golf flecks in your brown eyes, try a shadow that provides a gold-ish shimmery look. Steer clear of brown eye shadow  While brown on brown can sometimes look good, there's a good chance it could overpower the eye's natural beauty if the wrong tone is worn.

For mascara, choose a brown-black color that will accentuate your natural eye hue. Black is also flattering on brown eyes.

Blue Eyes:

Blue eye shadow on blue eyes used to be hot back in the 70's, but for today's fashion, it's just not in the cards. Shoot for Earth tones like browns, purples, taupes, and grays. Light pink is a good option for a light, casual day look.

Stick with black mascara for the lashes, or to make eyes really stand out, choose mascara with a blue undertone.

Green Eyes:

By rule, green-eyed ladies should explore eye shadows in purples and browns. The shade you choose should coordinate with the shade of green in your eyes.

For green eyes with a gold like tone, try more of a lavender color. Bright emerald eyes should steer toward plum, violet, and blue-purples. Mocha brown, gold, taupe, and lavender should be staple colors for anyone with green eyes.

Black, brown, and plum are top colors for mascara.

Gray Eyes:

It's not as common as blue, brown, and green, but some people are blessed with unique gray-colored eyes. This eye color is usually just a pale hue of green or blue, making a gray appearance.

Good eye shadow that accompany these beauties are the same colors as for blue or green eyes. Colors to experiment with are browns, purples, taupes, and grays.

Hazel Eyes:

As if picking the right eye shadow color wasn't hard enough, try have two eye colors to pick from. Hazel eyes seem to shift back and forth from brown to green.

Don't be overwhelmed. Women with hazel eyes can't go wrong with neutral colors, especially brown. Soft pink, cream, beige, and taupe are also good picks, as well as gray and black.

The Scoop on Eyeliner:

Along with eye shadow and mascara, eyeliner can also be matched up to your eye color. To pick your perfect liner, select one of these options:

Blue Eyes: neutral brown like espresso or deep blue or dark green.
Green Eyes: Purple undertones like plum or warm deep brown.
Hazel Eyes: Purple, plum, brown and deep blues.
Brown Eyes: Brown, purple, green and blue.
Every eye color: Blacks and grays will work with all eye colors.
